On 4/11/1483 (1st Richard III), Jeffrey Cobbe de Sandringham was bound
in a bond for money to William Berdwell.[75] On
1/10/1488, a conveyance by Robert Roper alias Fermor, formerly of
Grimston, to Thomas Walpole, esquire, Geoffrey Cobbe and others of land
at Houghton.[63] In 1492, upon the death of his father, William,
received the manor of Wood-Hall, Sandringham, along with those of
Babingley and Wolverton (the later two being West-Hall and
Butlers).[75] Between
1493-1500, appearing in the Six Clerks Office, Court of Chancery,
"Jefferey Cobbe vs. Rauff Salter, feoffee to uses, and William Lawes,
re a messuage and land in Sandringham and Dersingham, bought of William
Lawes."[109] On 12/6/1505 Galfrid Cobbe de Sandryngham (Geffrey),
Galfrid Hale, William Molle de Hillington and John Browcy received a
Charter of Lands from John Tharald, capellanno, for property at
Flitcham, Co Norfolk.[52] On 1/8/1510, Geoffrey Cobbe de
Sandryngham, gentleman & executor of the Last Will and
Testament of
Thomas Hale, sold to Richard Myght all lands in the town and fields of
Flitcham formerly belonging to Thomas Hale.[49] On 24/5/1512 Jeffrey
was listed as executor of the will of Thomas Walpole, Esquire, his
brother-in-law.[74] The will was proved 7/4/1513.[32,74,75] On
6/11/1513, "Lease from John Cok, singleman, to Geoffrey Hale of
Fliccham, Geoffrey Cobbe, gent., Thomas Cobbe of Fliccham, John Baker
of Hyllyngton and Thomas Gatele of Grymston of lands in Fliccham in
trust for Geoffrey Hale. Witnesses John Wright, John Hayll, John
Sturmyng and many others. Dated Fliccham."[165] On 1/5/1515,
Charter, Grant and Confirmation between Geoffrey Cobbe of Sandryngham,
gent., son of William Cobbe, dec'd., and Thomas Elwyn son of William
Elwyn to Edmund Bedyngfeeld, Roger Townesende, John Sturggs, Esq.,
Robert Dey, senior, Robert Dey, junior, John Fyncham of Fyncham and
others for Lands and tenements in Stradesete formerly of Elianora
Welles.[65] On 29/1/1516, "Grant from Henry Hale al Hayle,
yeoman, of London (next heir and kinsman as well to Thomas Hale his
father as to Geoffrey Hale late of Flyccham, Co Norfolk both deceased)
to Henry Sharneborne, Robert Lowell, Thomas Lowell, knights', John
Curson, Geoffrey Cobbe, Thomas Sharneborne, gentleman, John Lawse,
Robert Lawse, Edmund Houghton, John Smyth, John Toly, and Thomas Lawse,
of all the lands in Flyccham, Hyllynton and Appulton (inherited by him
from the said Thomas Hale and Geoffrey Hale) in trust for the said John
Lawse. With power of attorney to Thomas Baxter and William Cumpenny to
deliver to the said Henry, Robert, Thomas, John, Geoffrey, Thomas,
John, Robert, Edmund, John, John and Thomas, seisin of the above lands.
Witnesses Robert Danyell, Thomas Lawes, gentlemen, William Grene, sen.,
Richard Skarlett, sen., John Wryght, John Preston, Reginald Trowthe,
and others."[165] On 1/2/1516, Geoffrey Cobbe along with several
others purchased the lease on lands in Flitcham, Hillington and/or
Appulton {Appleton}
from John Lawse al Lawe: "Lease from Thomas
Baxter, clerk, of Newton next Sandryngham, at the instance of John
Lawse al Lawe, yeoman, of Flicham to Henry Sharneborne, Robert Lovell,
Thomas Lovell, 'militibus', Geoffrey Cobbe, Thomas Sharneborn, John
Curson, gent., the said John Lawes al Lawe, Robert Lawse, Edmund
Houghton, Thomas Lawse of Newton, and John Smyth of Anmer of lands in
Flicham, Hillyngton, and Appulton, sometime belonging to Geoffrey
Hayle, grandsire of Thomas Hale, and which the abovesaid John Lawse al
Law purchased of Henry Hayle of London in trust for the said John Lawse
al Lawe. Dated 1/2/1516. Witnesses: Robert Danyell, gent., Thomas
Lawes, William Grenne, Richard Scarlett, John Wryth, John Preston,
Reginald Trowth, and many others. With red seal."[46] In 1517, "the
last heirs of Elizabeth Scales, Lady Oxford, and Sir William Tyndal,
who had gradually been loosening their hold on their various Norfolk
manors, finally parted with the manors at Sandringham, Babingley and
Wolferton {Wolverton} to the Cobbe family, who had for some time
possession of other lands lying in the same parishes."[107] In
the Inquisition of 1517, Geoffrey Cobbe, who had succeeded William
Cobbe as son and heir and lord of the Manor of Sandringham some time
after 1492, had 26 acres under cultivation, "Item apud Sandryngham
Galfridus Cobbe inclusit & posuit ad pasturam xxvj acras terre
que
fuerunt in cultura citra tempus commissionis."[163] In the
Inquisition of 1517, Geoffrey Cobbe had 36 acres under cultivation at
Babingley, Co Norfolk, "Item Apud Brabyngle Galfridus Cobbys posuit ad
pasturam xxxvj acras terre que fuerunt in cultura citra tempus
commissionis."[163] The manor of Babingley was at the time in the hands
of the Countess of Oxford and Sir William Tyndall although some years
later the Cobbes of Sandringham became lords of the manor.[163] On
12/4/1519 a Conveyance of a Messuage and lands made between Thomas
Lawes de Sandryngham and Humphrey Lawes to Richard Might and Eleanor,
his wife, Geoffrey Cobbe, Thomas Lawes, Edward Might, William Drury,
William Gaydon (no location but in the Flitcham Estate
Manuscripts).[65] On
2/12/1519, a charter of lands between Richard Nele de Tylney, gent.,
son and heir of John Nele, gent., to Geoffrey Cobbe de Sandryngham and
Richard Might (no location but in the Flitcham Estate Manuscripts).[65]
On
7/7/1523, Lease from John [no surname given], prior, and the Convent of
Fliccham, to
Geoffrey Cobbe, gent., of Sandryngham of lands in West Newton and
Appylton for 20 years, dated at Fliccham (sic).[67] On 28/10/1525, a
grant by Henry Walpole, gentleman, of Harpley to Geoffrey Cobbe of
Sandringham and others of land in Harpley, Houghton and West Rudham to
the use of his will.[63] 1529-1532, appearing in the Six Clerks
Office, Court of Chancery, "Alice, late the wife of John Blakhood, vs.
Geoffrey Cobbe of Sandringham, esquire, re Land in Anmer late of
Richard Jekelowe, complainant's father."[109] Between 1533-1538,
appearing in the Six Clerks Office, Court of Chancery, "William
Potterell, husbandman. vs. Geoffrey Cobbe of Sandringham, gentleman,
feoffee to uses, re Land in Heacham acquired of the executor of William
Jokyn."[109] Married
