an
additional birth would fit. If Isaac does not belong here he almost
certainly belongs in a closely related family. Thomas Greenwood

1.1.1.1.1.
Isaac Greenwood,[9] born before 1780. Died 1824.[18] {According to [18]
Isaac was born 1775, Cawston,[18] the son of Aaron and Anne.[2] This
Isaac, however, died 1777, entered as "Grimwood"} Married Phoebe
Gold.[2,9] Phoebe born 1780, Buxton, Co Norfolk[18], & died 4/6/1846, Buxton, Co Norfolk (64yo, widow).[116] The
baptisms of the earlier known children at Buxton and the latter at
Marsham suggest a connection with the Marsham Greenwood’s.

1851.[1] Married 1st unknown, probably died before 1839 {Elizabeth, born 1839, was
baptised as the d/o William's 2nd wife in 1841}. Married
2nd Maria[1] Larkman,[9] December quarter, 1841, Norwich, Co
Norfolk.[79] {Given
her age Maria was likely previously married and appears to have had two
children to William prior to their marriage (she is listed as their
mother by [9]). It is theoretically possible that there were two
William Greenwood's married to two Maria Larkman's, one before 1829 and
the other in 1841, but IMO that is highly unlikely and more feasable is
a previous marriage for both or at least William} Maria

James Greenwood, baptised 23/2/1777, All Saints, Marsham, Co
Norfolk.[9] {Born 1772 according to his age at death, however such ages
are notoriously inaccurate. The identification of James as the s/o
Thomas & Ann baptised 1777 is somewhat tentative. There is no
obvious connection with the Swaffham area Greenwood’s. However another
son of Thomas & Ann had moved to Castle Acre (near West Acre)
by
the 1810’s and there several rare Christian names in common} Labourer,

1.1.2.2.1.
Thomas Greenwood, baptised 6/8/1780, All Saints, Marsham, Co
Norfolk.[1,9,16,114] Died June quarter, 1859, Aylsham district, Co Norfolk
(no age listed).[79,114] Chelsea Pensioner & Groom, 1851.[1] {The
Chelsea Pension was paid to all soldiers who had been injured in
service, or who had served for more than 20 years & was
administered through the Royal Hospital Chelsea up to 1955, hence the
name. By the 1800's most Chelsea pensioners were out-pensioners, that
is they did not reside at the hospital.[80] This would explain why Thomas
was about 40 when he married Catherine Twee} In 1828 was a
witness at his sister’s wedding (Martha)
at Heigham, Co Norfolk.[2] In 1831 resided St Miles Coslany, Norwich,
Co Norfolk.[2] In 1841 resided Marsham, Co Norfolk.[3] In 1851 resided
Allisons Street, Marsham, Aylsham district, Co Norfolk.[1,114] Living with
the family was a Frances Robinson, unrelated, wife of a silversmith's
clerk, born Ireland.[1] Resided 1861,1871 No.17 Alison St, Marsham, Co Norfolk.[114] {There
were two Thomas Greenwood's born in
Marsham in the 1780's. One the s/o James, the other the s/o Thomas.[9]
The 1851 census gives a dob of 1781,[1] consistent with the former,
whilst [3] gives a dob of 1786, more consistent with the latter. The
list of children for Thomas & Catherine bears many similarities
with that of James, hence he is the most likely father}
Possibly married 1st Ann Pratt, 1/3/1803, North
Walsham, Co Norfolk.[2,9] {There
is no other candidate for the spouse of Ann. The likely scenario is
that Ann died soon after marriage, Thomas enlisted in the army and
served a 20 year term. He met & married his 2nd wife while
posted
in Ireland, returning to Norfolk after his term of service expired.
Note that his first child appears to have been born in Ireland}
Married
Catherine[1,9] Twee,[3,9,16] 14/9/1819, Templemichael, Longford, Ireland.[114] Catherine born 1792[1,16,114]/1794[79], Co

Norfolk.[1,9] Died 1891/1892.[59] Resided 1851 at the Rectory,
Baconsthorpe, Co
Norfolk.[1] ‘James’ was a servant of Rev
John Partridge (the parish was evidently wealthy as Partridge had 6
servants).[2] Thomas resided 1881-1891 Railway
Tavern, Flordon, Co Norfolk.[4,34,44,58] Thomas was an inn keeper,
1862,1869-1891.[2,4,34,44,58,59] The
Railway tavern, by the railway station, frirst aquired a license in
1851 (James Robert).[59] In 1865 James White relinquinshed his license
and Thomas Jame appears as the
next licensee in 1869 (it is unknown whether White, Greenwood or
another party operated the inn 1866-1868, but it
was likely one of the two). From 1892-1904 “Mrs
Mary Greenwood” was the licencee.[59] In 1908 John Aves aquired the
license.[59] The inn closed in 1958.[59] {Appears to have used The names
James & Thomas interchangeably,
appears 1883 as Thomas J}
Married Mary[2,4,79] Whiting, September quarter, 1861, Erpingham
district, Co Norfolk.[79] Mary born 1833, Baconsthorpe, Co Norfolk.[4]
Mary
died 1904 or latter.[59] After Thomas’ death Mary continued to operate
the Railway Tavern until at least 1904,
possibly until 1908.[59]
